FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is Paintik?

Paintik is a children's art sharing website. In contrast to traditional photo-sharing sites, it is totally dedicated to children's artwork (i.e. drawings, paintings, and images of other artworks), and enables parents to preserve their kids' special artworks online. It also enables parents to receive an analysis of their child's paintings, and see how children's personal traits such as self-esteem, sociability, and emotions are reflected in their artwork.

What can I do in Paintik?

Plenty! Once you upload your children's paintings (i.e. either photographed with your digital camera, or scanned with a regular scanner), you can manage and organize them just like in a digital photo album. You can share them with family and friends, sending e-cards with a special painting to others, receive interpretation of your child's drawings revealing insights from your his/her inner world and create amazing stuff from these drawings.

What is the difference between Paintik's interpretation service and offline services?

Paintik is the first and as far as we know the only online children's drawings interpretation service. However, we do not see ourselves as competing with off-line services in any way. This is because off-line services are normally granted as an initial and integral part of a costly long treatment, and performed by child psychologists, art therapists, children health practitioners, and other child professionals as means of analyzing the points to be treated. Paintik does only the initial step – the interpretation of the drawings. Paintik does not provide any treatment, nor comes to replace any of these practices. Paintik is intended for the general public, and at an affordable price. It can be regarded as an enriching service, a lifestyle service, or for some even an amusing service – but certainly NOT a treatment of any sort.

Who performs the analysis of the drawings?

The analysis of the drawings is done by a team of qualified personnel that have studied and were trained in the fields of interpretation and understanding children's drawing and in the psychology process of parents and children (based on Alfred Adler's theory), by Michal Wimmer (renowned interpreter of children paintings, a leading juristic expert opinion maker in the field, with a vast experience in preschoolers children psychology and guiding parents, and the author of the book ‘Painting Talk’ by Mentor publication). The interpretation process is based on recent academic research and studies and best practice methodologies in the field of interpreting children drawings.

Why should I preserve my child’s paintings?

As parents we felt awful that our children's art was pilled and stacked in some draw, without us or other family members ever enjoying them. Most parents we asked admitted that they save their children's paintings because they “feel pain to throw them”, and yet they have no place to do something with them. The new paintings are usually hanged with glory on the refrigerator door, and the old ones are pilled in a box, draw or the basement, where no one reveals them for years. Paintik is a great solution to preserve these wonderful treasures, share them, and witness how the child's skills develop over time.

Why use Paintik?

Using Paintik is fun and makes you smile every time you look at these drawings and remember these precious moments. Instead of hanging them on the refrigerator door, upload them to Paintik and share them with all family members (grandmothers, grandfathers, aunt and uncle) and the world. You will be amazed how excited and proud your child would feel when seeing his/her painting online. When you take your child's paintings seriously, it will encourage him/her to continue drawing and express himself /herself through art.

Does it cost to be a Paintik member?

No. Registering and using Paintik is totally FREE. We charge special fees for extra services including our analysis service that interpret your child's paintings, because such interpretations require expertise and are time consuming.

My child doesn't have any special artistic talent. Why should I upload his/her paintings?

Pablo Picasso once said “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up”. Every painting is special and unique to the child who created it. Children’s paintings have much deeper meaning as they reflect the child inner world. So a “house” is not just a house, it reflects how the child feels at his home, his personality. A drawing of a “person” can reveal a lot of information of how the child sees himself or other family members. Paintik is not for professional artists. It is for everyone.

Why is it important to encourage my children to paint?

Many researches show that art is an important tool for learning among children. When the children create art, they learn self discipline, improve their creativity, and gain confidence to succeed. The art creation helps children learn about the world and see it in new ways. Art is a new language that provides children a way to express thoughts, feelings, and hopes. It can also improve their learning abilities as they need to analyze, concentrate, pay special attention to details, and work hard to complete a goal.

What can I learn from my child's paintings?

There is a consensus that expression through art is a personal unique statement that contains conscious and unconscious meanings that can represent different aspects of a child including: the child self esteem, self confidence, emotional and social behavior and much more. The interpretation process includes examining each painting and identifying main characteristics in the child paintings that consistently point to a certain trait or character. We invite you to read more here.

How can I protect my children's privacy?

Paintik takes privacy issues very seriously. Only parents/ teachers (above 18) are allowed to upload children's paintings. When opening a Paintik account, parents decide which name/nickname they want will appear near their child's paintings. We advise all parents to use only first name or nickname and never reveal their child's full name. In addition, every painting or album can be hiden to viewers. You can also protect the album via password (use 'Edit Album' option). Click here to read our privacy policy.

Is Paintik limited to children's art?

Yes. Paintik is dedicated to children art, from the age of merely a few months and up to the age of 18. Please do not publish any non-art images, pictures of children, or artwork of adults.

Can I upload paintings of 2 or more children in the same account?

Each Paintik account is dedicated to one child, as the calculation of the child's age and when each painting was drawn is done automatically, relieving parents from the tedious task of submitting this data again and again for each painting. However, there are no limitations on the number of accounts you can open. We recommend you open an account for each of your children.

Do I have to register to Paintik to view other children's paintings?

No. You can browse through Paintik’s gallery using Editor’s Picks, using our search or viewing paintings by age groups. You will see only paintings that were defined as Public.

Do I have to be a Paintik’s member, for you to interpret my child's paintings?

Yes. You need to upload you child's paintings in order for us to review them, and the only way to do that is to create an account (i.e. become a Paintik member). With several paintings in your album, you can order an analysis of the child's paintings.
